|Job Role||Herdsperson in Kent Ref: 2569|
The farm is in North-West Kent and has a 300 milking herd with 160 heifers and 55 calves. The dairy herd is part of an overall farming estate covering 1600 hectares, with the arable, 200 beef, hops and vines covered by other teams.
We are seeking an experienced herdsperson to work alongside the herd manager and be able to take responsibility and lead the team when the manager is away.
Working hours vary, but generally, are a 6 day week averaging 60 hours. Days off are worked out within a team of 5 at the dairy. The options usually are 1 day a week and 1 weekend a month, or 2 days every other week with 1/2 days used to split up the "week on".
|The Role||The duties of the herdsperson will predominantly be focusing on the herd, the share of the routine milking to watch the performance of the cows, fertility, bulling cows etc. Someone who has previous milking experience, attention to detail, interest in fertility and AI trained will be preferable. AI is completed in house, so AI trained would be preferred. Foot trimming would also be useful, but not essential.|
|The Applicant||The key thing is working within the team, working with the manager in the running of the herd and being able to lead when the manager is away, including basic record keeping.
Interest in calf rearing and the breeding stock would also be preferred.
|Accommodation||The position benefits from a house on site, centrally heated, with all rates and council tax covered by the employer, utility bills payable by the occupant.
