The Farm
A unique opportunity for a head herdsperson/ manager to manage a small herd of cross bred dairy cows in the production of the highest quality milk, supplying exclusive coffee shops on a premium contract. Milk is also processed on site for other products such as cheese, yoghurts and ice cream.
The Role
This candidate must be a top stock person, with a passion for cows and the desire for someone to treat this herd as their own. They must be on top of hitting targets for milk quality including fats, proteins and urea constituents. Their role will be to initially milk the cows until robot is installed fully, monitor and check herd and stock, AI proficient and foot trimming would also be useful. Record keeping is essential, keeping on top of records and inputting data into the system. Use of machinery, grassland management, ability to feed if necessary (round bale silage) and bed up (straw chopper) is useful. However the main focus of this role is the cows and the milk production.
The Applicant
We require applicants who will be competent and capable to take responsibility for: • The management of the dairy herd (willing to take on milking once a day)
• milking, monitoring and cow checks, detection of problems and treatment
• Record keeping
• AI proficient, foot trimming useful but not essential
Accommodation
Combination of accommodations depending on what the successful candidate wanted, currently undergoing siting of a log cabin, but also access to rented cottage accommodation in the village.
Additional Info This is a contract position, where the successful person will operate as an agency worker with Farm Solutions. This means that the person will not have sub-contractor responsibilities and all statutory tax deductions and payments will be made by Farm Solutions on their behalf. Hourly pay operates, which includes pay for overtime hours worked.
