Experienced Dairy Farm Assistant

The farm operates a simple and efficient dairy system with a focus on consistency, cow comfort, and performance. It manages a 300-cow dairy herd across 150 acres, with a calving season from January to April. From February onwards, the herd is managed on a zero-grazing system, supporting optimal milk output early in the season. Cows are milked in a 20-unit herringbone parlour, designed to ensure efficient, clean, and safe milking routines.

The role requires a competent milker with a sensible and proactive approach to daily tasks. Core responsibilities include:

• Conducting evening milking in the 20-unit parlour with a strong emphasis on hygiene and animal handling
• Assisting with general farm duties such as feeding, bedding, and cleaning
• Monitoring cow health and reporting any issues to farm management
• Supporting seasonal tasks, including calving and silage work

The successful applicant must be able to work both independently and as part of the farm team to ensure smooth, daily operations.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced milker with the following qualities:

• A minimum of one year’s experience in milking
• Good observational skills and an understanding of animal health
• A practical and responsible attitude towards farm work
• Strong timekeeping and the ability to work unsupervised
• A positive, team-oriented mindset

This position is suited to someone who is dependable and takes pride in maintaining a high standard of care for both livestock and equipment.
