Location Co Meath
The Farm Dairy farm in Co Meath with 200 cow herd on 250 acres. .
The Role The Assistant Manager is required to assist the farm manager and at times be responsible for the implementation and supervision of the agreed operational plan. It is expected that the Assistant Manager will live by the farm`s philosophies, buy into the farm targets and implement the activities that mean the business can achieve its goals. The Assistant Manager will be required to supervise and manage other staff as required.Responsible management of the farm dairy as directed by farm manager, including: Milk Production
Feeding:
Assist the farm manager to collect and use information to manage herd feeding, so that farm targets are met, including:
Managing pasture allocation, within the bounds of the feed budget
Carrying out farm walks to collect pasture growth information and keep a stock take of supplements on hand Completing feed budgets as required
Understanding and operating the irrigation system within consent requirements, including trouble shooting Introducing supplements into the system as agreed with farm manager Implementing an effective weed control programme
Coordinating any pasture renovation programme
Coordinating any crop establishment programme
Coordinating fertiliser application as per Nutrient Management Programme Recognising feed surplus and contribute to decision making regarding conservation of feed
Milk Harvesting:
Supervising milking from paddock to farm dairy as required Understanding of withholding periods and impact of miss management of these to the business
Milking is completed to standards required, including all cows are milked appropriately, marked cows dealt with as per farm policy.
The dairy, including bails and yard are cleaned as instructed Dairy plant and equipment is cleaned and maintained according to instructions Faults are identified quickly and action is taken to fix these Dairy stores are kept at the required level All safe operating procedures are adhered to Milk Production –
Milk Quality:
Responsible for contributing to a continuous grade free season, by:Helping to ensure only milk of the finest quality is presented for collection
Contributing to dairy hygiene and achievement of milk quality
Maintaining hygiene and cleanliness standards
Assisting with meeting dairy company requirements Dairy procedures are always followed so only milk of the finest quality is presented for collection Stock Management
Assisting with the management of the animals on farm as directed by farm manager, including: Identifying and treating illness and injury in cows
Identifying other animal health problems and either treating or reporting these immediately to the farm manager
Understand seasonal stock management requirements and assist with implementing these as directed by farm manager
Understanding and assisting with all calving requirements
Understanding and coordinating mating requirements as required
Responsible for or assisting with calf rearing as required
Responsible for or assisting with the management of young stock as required
Responsible for or assisting with the management of dry stock, including bulls as required
Maintain records of all animal health treatments given and ensuring animals are marked according to the farm policy
Observing and recording cows in season
Observing and recording cows calved
Recording any other associated information as instructed by the farm managerTeam Responsibilities
Effectively communicate with farm manager as required
Acting as effective team member, including communicating effectively with entire team
Supporting permanent and relief staff in their duties in the absence of the farm manager
Committed to learning new skills and attending appropriate training as agreed with farm manager
Health and Safety:
Comply with all health and safety requirements as directed by farm manager or as outlined in the Health and Safety Manual
Comply with the requirements of the health and safety in Employment legislation
Complying with farm health and safety policies and procedures, including the wearing of all personal protective equipment
Notify farm manager of new hazards as identified
Notify the farm manager of any accident or near miss accident, (injury or non-injury) and complete an Accident Report
