Location | Kerry |
The Farm | Spring Calving dairy farm with high yielding cows of high genetic merit producing top quality milk |
The Role | This is a hands-on role that encompasses a wide range of responsibilities essential to the smooth daily operation of the dairy farm. Milking will be a key task, carried out in a 12-unit parlour, requiring attention to detail, cleanliness, and consistency to ensure high milk quality and animal welfare. The candidate will be expected to follow established milking routines and hygiene protocols, as well as monitor cow health during milking. Fencing duties will include both maintenance and installation of electric and conventional fencing systems, ensuring livestock are secure and pasture management is effective. Tractor work will range from feeding livestock and spreading slurry to silage handling and general machinery operation, so familiarity with farm equipment and safe driving practices is essential. Other general farm tasks will involve bedding, feeding calves, cleaning sheds, assisting with calving when required, and maintaining the overall tidiness and functionality of the farmyard. This role suits someone with a proactive attitude, strong work ethic, and a genuine interest in animal husbandry and farm operations. |
The Applicant | The ideal applicant will be a dependable, hard-working individual with a genuine passion for farming and animal welfare. Previous experience in milking is essential, particularly in a parlour setting, as well as a solid background in general farm duties such as feeding, cleaning, and livestock handling. A practical understanding of farm machinery, including the safe operation of tractors and associated equipment, is also required. A good eye for animal health is highly valued, as early identification of issues such as lameness, mastitis, or unusual behaviour plays a crucial role in maintaining herd wellbeing and productivity. Strong communication skills and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team are important, as the successful candidate will work closely alongside the farmer to manage daily routines and respond to the varying demands of each season. The role would best suit someone who is flexible, proactive, and able to take initiative when required. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and respect for the animals and environment are key qualities we look for. Reliability and consistency are essential, especially during busy periods such as calving or silage season. |
Accommodation | On-site accommodation is provided as part of the role, offering a convenient and comfortable living arrangement for the successful candidate. The accommodation is located on or near the farm, allowing for easy access to work and reducing commute time. It is well-suited for an individual looking to fully immerse themselves in farm life and be available for early morning or occasional evening tasks when necessary. The living quarters are maintained to a good standard and include basic amenities such as heating, cooking facilities, and private space to ensure a pleasant and practical home environment. This setup is ideal for someone seeking a rural lifestyle and the opportunity to be closely involved in the daily rhythm of the farm. |
