Job Description

This is a large commercial beef enterprise located in the South East of South Australia. The business is privately owned and has been operational since 1990.
 
They run 4,000 black Angus beef cattle on 10,000 acres, consisting of cows and calves, self replacing heifers and bulls, and steers grown-out to bullocks.

They have been managed as a closed herd for almost 20 years.

Breeding bulls are grown on-farm, along with an annual artificial insemination (A.I.) programme to introduce new bloodlines.


Major farm activities carried-out during the year include:

. Calving (March–May)
. A.I. (June)
. Hay Feeding (April–August)
. Calf Marking/Drenching (September–October)
. Hay Production (November–December).
 

Position Summary

The Assistant Farm Manager (beef cattle) position is available for one year.

The successful applicant will join the owner/manager and one full-time employee to help manage the day-to-day operations of the farming business.

The applicant will be experienced in tractor driving, machinery operation, cattle management and general farm work.

Most importantly, the person should be fit, passionate about cattle management, competent with modern farming technology and enthusiastic about experiencing Australian farm life in a small rural community.

Accommodation: A fully furnished, air conditioned worker’s cottage is supplied. Water and electricity is connected, but electricity accounts are to be paid by the employee.

Telephone and internet connections are available, but not currently connected. The connection and payment of these additional services will be the responsibility of the employee.

No smoking is permitted on the property or in the accommodation supplied.

Other Conditions: An international or Australian driver’s license will be required.
